Divaine is a branded formulation of minocycline, a tetracycline-class antibiotic prized for its broad-spectrum activity and high lipid solubility. Doctors often prescribe minocycline to treat persistent acne because it penetrates skin tissues effectively and reduces the bacteria that trigger inflammatory lesions. It is also used for respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, tonsillitis and sinusitis; urinary tract infections; some sexually transmitted infections; and to eliminate meningococcal carriers. Unlike older tetracyclines, minocycline causes less gastrointestinal irritation and is absorbed well with or without food.

When taking Divaine, follow your physician’s dosing instructions carefully. The usual adult dosage ranges from 50‑100 mg one or two times daily, depending on the severity of the infection. Swallow tablets whole with plenty of water and remain upright for at least 30 minutes to prevent esophageal irritation. Avoid taking with dairy products, antacids or supplements containing calcium, iron or magnesium, as these can interfere with absorption. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early to prevent resistant bacteria from surviving. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.

Minocycline can cause side effects including nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness and photosensitivity. It may rarely lead to benign intracranial hypertension, autoimmune reactions or discoloration of skin, teeth or gums with prolonged use. To reduce the risk of sunburn, avoid tanning beds and wear protective clothing and sunscreen while outdoors. This antibiotic should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women or in children under eight, as it can affect tooth enamel and bone development. Inform your doctor about all other medications you take, especially isotretinoin, blood thinners and antacids. With prudent use, Divaine helps clear acne and treat various bacterial infections effectively.
