Ergonomics Specialist recommends you double PUK!
Repeat purchases keep on rising
The H V Wooding marketing department have been tracking PUK sales over the last few months in order to identify sales patterns. Apart from noticing a higher than average proportion of overseas purchases, another trend that has been flagged is “double PUKing”.
In particular the U.S. seems to be the largest proponents of this trend, this being the purchase of a single PUK, followed by another purchase of a single PUK a few weeks later.
Paul Smith of H V Wooding commented ”we regularly see repeat purchases through the web site, but this is generally a case of someone buying themselves a PUK, falling in love with it, then buying more for friends and family!” “The second purchase is usually for 3 or 4 PUKs as the purchaser wishes to pass the PUKs health benefits on to his loved ones.”
The new trend of double PUKing had a few people at H V Wooding H.Q. scratching their heads, that is until a U.S. Ergonomics specialist got in touch to explain the phenomenon. It appears that rather than using the PUK solely as a rest whilst using their mouse, people had actually begun to buy a second PUK, and were using them in tandem while typing on the keyboard.
The Ergonomist reported that several staff had been trialling the mouse wrist rest over the last month or so, and added these comments;
"The hollow centre is a good idea as it can help to relieve pressure on the carpal tunnel.”
"We like the ease of movement around the desk whilst using it compared with other mouse wrist rests which are static."
“We also tried two together at the keyboard. This provoked a positive response, again due to the ease of movement.
PUK @ the National Incentives Show
The Official Launch of the PUK
H V Wooding Limited were delighted with the reception that the PUK got at the National Incentives Show at the NEC in September, the official launch of the PUK.
We believe that the PUK was one of, if not the only, truly original item at the show. Promotional pens, mouse mats, logod chocolate, and prize draws for a car have been around for years, but everyone was very pleased to see the "New Kid On The Block"!
The PUK is an ideal marketing tool, as it can be produced in pantone specific colours, and can be branded with company logos. The product has a very long life, and will be used all day, every day, meaning that logos, web addresses, contact details etc., if printed on the top, are guaranteed to remain on the desk of clients / business contacts for a very long time.
The response we received from the visitors exceeded our wildest dreams, and the fact that we have a unique promotional product, with such clear medical and health related advantages made the PUK a run away hit. We have already received enquiries for tens of thousands of PUKs, from lots of UK based “Blue Chip” companies, and a couple of major players from the United States.

Hand wrist arm hurts? PUK to the rescue
By Mr Peter Abrahams of Bloor Research
" To get the benefit of a wrist support and still be able to move the arm around requires a support that moves with the mouse, the PUK from www.pukme.com does just that.
The PUK is a soft rubbery disk on a hard plastic base; the base has a very low coefficient of friction so it slides over the worktop as easily as the mouse. The wrist is supported and the mouse controlled by the whole arm, so providing the best of both worlds. "

What the PUK!?
The ins & outs, top & bottom of a PUK
So by now, you’re probably wondering, what the PUK am I made from? I’m so comfy to use & slide around your desk like a banana on ice.
My Base
The all-important slippery part! This part of me is made from a self-lubricating, lightweight, low wear, durable, low friction plastic, developed by DuPont in the early 50’s as an alternative to metal. My prominent feet slip and slide with your wrist across the table, maximizing the self-lubricating properties of this type of material.
My Top
The super comfy, squashy part. Well, this is the place you rest your weary wrist, but it’s not as simple as that for me, are you ready for the science part? My squashy top is made from a type of thermoplastic elastomer, a hybrid breed of plastic and rubber. This super soft grade is specially designed to make your wrist feel at home when using your PC.
Touch me - Squeeze me - Use me!
And don’t forget I’m made from 100% recyclable materials!
PUK was invented by 2 employees
Do you have any innovative ideas we could help get off the ground?
It all began a couple of years ago, when Shaun spent yet another night on the computer, playing the games that he loves, which has made him a key figure in the gaming world. Shaun had developed RSI, and had undergone various treatments, but the pain he suffered did not stop him pursuing his gaming interests.
Shaun mentioned it to a fellow colleague Jon, who was a bit of a boffin type, and between them they came up with an idea to reduce pressure on the wrist. This eventually led to them producing a very early version of the PUK, just a step or two away from some Blue Peter sticky back plastic style invention.
Realising that they had come up with an idea that could benefit fellow sufferers, they took this acorn of an idea to their bosses, to see if they would be interested in helping to develop the idea. Realising the potential, the reception they received was overwhelming. After months of research, and the full technical and financial backing of their company, the PUK was born, albeit a very early ancestor of the one you can purchase today.
Office staff were given various early generations to trial, and when the samples given out for trial were never returned, the company realised they were really on to something. Once staff used the early PUK's, they never wanted to let them go. Despite the PUK only being released on the market in August of this year, staff at H V Wooding Limited, the parent company, have been using PUKs for almost a year, and no-one, I repeat no-one, in the office displays any symptoms of RSI whatsoever.
A co-incidence? Well maybe, no-one will ever be sure, but let us just re-iterate, once the staff were given a PUK, they never gave them back.
There appeared to be a lack of technical know-how in this country to take this to the next level, and mass produce the PUK's so that everyone can make up their own minds. So after extensive research, and a whistle stop tour of the leading european plastics specialists, an overseas company was found, who took the PUK to the groundbreaking level of technology that it represents today. This company has also experienced the apparent evaporation of trial samples. Months before the product was ready to sell, every secretary, administrator, designer and office worker, were using PUK's daily, and every experimental run has had to be increased, as more and more staff wanted one.
Shaun and Jon's invention could help thousands of people change their lives. We challenge you to give it a go, and if you don't like it, or you see no improvements, then it is also the perfect size and shape to throw at the office junior!
H V Wooding limited have displayed an amazing belief in the dreams of two of their employees, and made an idea into a reality. We would like to help other such people to get their ideas off the ground, so if you have an idea, get in touch, and maybe we can help. Please contact pauls@pukme.com, no ideas will go unanswered!
